Labour and birth is pretty overwhelming for some, especially when it's your wife/daughter/sister/friend in labour. For some, being a birth support for the first time can be nerve wracking and scary. Many partners mention how helpless they feel, not knowing what to do.
So, I've created a practical "Labour Cheat Sheet" for Birth Partners. Full of practical suggestions on what to do, and what not to do to help a labouring mother.
These are some of the techniques I use to support women in my role as a doula, but are easy enough for anyone to do.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, but it's a good start to help empowering Birth Partners to support their birthing women. The worst thing you can do is nothing.
If you'd like to know a little more about being a birth support, this blog has some more great suggestions.
So print away, stick it on the fridge, on the toilet door and make sure to pack in into your labour bag for easy access.
